Light the Lake — Salmon Arm Daybreak Rotary Club
Salmon Arm Daybreak Rotary Club is taking on the project to light the walking path around McGuire Lake. This is our biggest project since the splash parks, and we’re excited!

Lighting the (McGuire) Lake has made the lake a downtown tourist centerpiece, while increasing safety for local residents.
Three years after we started the process, we’re proud to say that the walking path around McGuire Lake is lit.
It was a long, drawn out process, but we managed to get it done. We’re Rotarians, we get stuff done! We embarked on our Light the Lake in the fall of 2022. It was presented to council in the Spring of 2023, and after multiple returns to the drawing board to ensure that all environmental requirements set by council were met, the lights were installed in June, 2025.
Our goal with the project was to pay to have lights put in around the entire 1km walking path that encircles McGuire Lake. That was completed, and now after the generous support of the community, the lights look great and the community is safer. We’re thankful to everyone that helped to make this project happen.
“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
– Winston Churchill

We worked with the local council to ensure our lighting project had as little impact as possible on the delicate ecosystem of McGuire Lake.
Our goal was have the lighting in by Summer, 2025. Lights were installed in June, 2025.
Help and support came through the community. Here’s how:
- 2023 and 2024 Lobsterfest auction revenue.
- Our involvement with and the support from Bollywood (thanks Sunni!).
- The hard work of dozens of Rotarians along the way.
